Practice Resurrection

Practice Resurrection by Eugene Peterson
a conversation on growing up in Christ

This is the fourth book from the five part "Conversations on Spiritual Theology" that I've read, it is so good. And it was exactly what I needed for encouragement as I struggle with spiritual growth and what it means to be part of the church. The book is based on the Letter to the Ephesians. Dog ears:
  • pg. 3 - spiritual birth and growth compared with physical birth and growth
  • pg. 12 - the witness of the church
  • pg. 13 - "the practice of resurrection is not an attack on the world of death; it is a nonviolent embrace of life in the country of death. it is an open invitation to live eternity in time."
  • pg. 24 - the Americanization of the congregation - advertising, organization, motivational rhetoric
  • pg. 32 - calling and walking
  • pg. 44 - living robustly vs. living timidly and cautiously
  • pg. 56 - expansion of self = atrophy of the soul?
  • pg. 57 - the seven verbs
  • pg. 83 - baptism is definitive
  • pg. 84 - "Looking for Mt. Monadnock"
  • pg. 151 - the divinity AND the humanity of the church
  • pg. 185 - Cardinal Suhard witness quote
  • pg. 194 - Christian life does not start with moral behavior
  • pg. 213 - love
  • pg. 221 - embracing the messy
  • pg. 242 - making God in our image
  • pg. 254 - living in the culture of built-in obsolescence
  • pg. 273 - tip-toeing through the tulips Christianity
